Kendrick Mountain Hike (Kaibab National Forest)

Kendrick Mountain is in the Kaibab National Forest, just northwest of Flagstaff. This was a very pleasant hike, with excellent views of the San Francisco Peaks and as far as Sedona to the south and the Grand Canyon to the north. Wildflowers were a highlight.

I found this hike in Tom Dollar's Arizona's Wilderness Areas. There are three trails to the summit, one of which, the Kendrick Mountain Trail,is the shortest (4 miles each way) and most direct route to the the summit (10,418 feet). The other two, the Bull Basin Trail and the Pumpkin trail, can be combined for an 11.0 mile loop hike. Trails are accessible from FR 245 off of US 180, then following FR 171. You may also want to stop at Lava River Tube, a nearby volcanic cave.

NB: I have done my best to identify the wildflowers using the USDA Plants Database, eNature.com's Wildflower Guide, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
